Taking a hiatus for LL98
It's been a good run but I've decided to pause the recaps for a while.
Hi everyone, hope you’ve had a great summer. First of all I realize I was disgruntled in my last post and instead of that negativity I wanted to focus on some of the 1DS quizzes I enjoyed on LearnedLeague during the last offseason:
Just Images Google Trends - really fun quiz about Google Trends, which shows you what search topics are trending across the world currently and historically. Several diverse topics from American Idol winners to Presidential campaigns were included, and each question was a fun puzzle to figure out.
Double Dactyls - A hilariously whimsical poetic quiz about six-syllable famous figures (Benedict Cumberbatch, Emily Dickinson, etc.) and their accomplishments.
Homer at the Bat - I didn’t do great on this (i.e. I messed up the famous Pitt the Elder/Lord Palmerston argument that Barney has with Wade Boggs), but I’m so glad one of the most iconic Simpsons episodes got a full One-Day dedicated to its memory.
Failed One-Hit Wonder Follow-Ups - This was the excellent work of KohrmanA, who has contributed here before and done a few other music quizzes. My knowledge of random late-90s MTV and VH1 videos was rewarded, especially with artists like LEN, Natalie Imbruglia, and New Radicals.
Irredentism and Revanchism - normally with a title like this I would skip it but someone in an LL Facebook group gave it a thumbs-up, so I checked it out and it was extremely in my wheelhouse - a 1DS on territorial disputes and the pop culture surrounding them. Great stuff.
Jeopardy! - Finally the quiz show that many of us have watched throughout our lives got its own 1DS, and wardr (who has contributed here in the past and is a J! Second Chance champion themself) did a great job of putting together 12 questions (or is it answers?) about the famous moments and other potpourri in the show’s history. Alas, I needed a potent potable when I moneyed the question about the original Clue Crew and got it wrong.
As for this season, I need to take another break from daily recaps. As much as I enjoy doing them, it’s time for a step back. With a kid and a full-time job and something else I’m working on outside of trivia this fall, I need the break from recaps, which can take some time and effort especially depending on the Match Day. Not sure if this will be permanent or just a season or two, but for LL98 I’m just going to play the season normally (I’m back in Rundle B after one season of hovering around the bottom of the Rundle A standings), and see how I’m feeling once LL99 rolls around.
Thanks again everyone for reading for the past couple years and good luck this season!
That’s too bad—I really enjoy your recaps—but burnout is real and life comes first. Good luck this season!
Following up here--it's amusing to me that, after you paused the recaps, you had an absolutely thrilling season that would have been a blast to read about. Congratulations on your promotion to A!
